Storing data persistently in the browser

Modern web applications need to remember user preferences, save form data, cache information, and maintain state across sessions. The Web Storage API provides localStorage and sessionStorage—simple key-value stores built into browsers. localStorage persists data indefinitely, while sessionStorage only lasts for the browser session.
